My basement was partially finished when we moved in and now I'm finishing the rest of it. I have a room where the door was already installed but I'm in the process of doing drywall now. On one side of the door everything matches up evenly for the trim piece to be installed flush over the door frame onto the drywall.
On this left side though, it's flush towards the top of the door but the jamb sticks out about a 1/2 inch towards the bottom. Currently the wall and my drywall are completely level, the door jamb is slightly off level. I'm assuming I need to do some kind of shim back here but am I just going to put that behind the molding trim piece or do I put that behind the drywall to make it flush with the door jamb? I just worry I'm not going to be able to make the molding piece look good if I have some shim stuff behind it.
Or I guess the nuclear option is to uninstall the door and reinstall it flush, but I would rather not do that as it's all finished on the outside of the door and that would require a lot more touch up. And then I might run into the same problem on the opposite side.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is my first time going through all of this.
