Tori in Freiburg and a sound desater
I've been listening to Tori since I was 15, that makes 25 years. Her songs gave me well needed company through many difficult times and I'm in awe about her storytelling and her intuitive approach to playing songwriting. So I was incredibly excited to see her in my hometown in an awesome venue. And was disappointed.
It was wonderful seeing her, but the sound almost ruined it. It was awful. Much too loud, the songs disappeared into a mush of base, drums and exaggerated dynamic, the high tones or just Tori's consonants at the beginning of lines hurt in the ears as did many passages of the backup singers. No nuance, no transparency, often the songs were unrecognizable at first. And this at venue with otherwise excellent acoustics. I don't get why that happens. Like, do you not notice that you're creating mainly noise while setting up a sound like that? Just a bit less volume would have made a big difference.
Anyway. I loved seeing her. I do feel like her energy transpires, even through a wall of sound.
