In desperate need for advice!

I'm currently a D3 OOS student applying for OMFS residency this cycle. I have 3 upcoming externships scheduled; however, due to unforeseen circumstances, I can no longer afford the costs to attend all 3. If I email the residency coordinator explaining my situation, will it still look bad that I cancelled an externship as an applicant to a program? :')
