I dont find Matthew to be rude at all when he arrives, he seems like he values his independence & feels strange depending on Moseley. He is presented as being rude to Moseley but was he really? He doesnt want to feel beholden to someone helping him do things he could do himself, is that really so bad? I feel bad for Moseley but i think thats on Lord Grantham - they shouldnt have hired Moseley without checking with Matthew. Matthew felt awkward.
