Roaches in my new apartment
I just got the keys to my new apartment, come over and find it infested with roaches. I toured it once two weeks ago and obviously didn’t do as comprehensive a sweep as I should have. Even more embarrassing, I don’t notice the sorry state of the appliances until today. Finding a new apartment was such a nightmare and was so competitive we just kind of jumped on this one. The property manager says he don’t notice roaches while doing repairs this week and the old tenants never complained, but there is roach killing spray left here as well as very full roach trap under the oven. He says he’ll get an exterminator but as long as appliances work they don’t have to replace them. What can I do? How can I trust the landlord to actually deal with any of this? Do I have any chance of getting out of the lease, which hasn’t even technically started? Please don’t tell me I was stupid for not doing a more comprehensive check before signing. I know. Thanks
