15th May, Happy 50th Birthday to the 12" Disco Single

In the 15th May edition of Record World's weekly Disco Column Vince Aletti announces Salsoul Records plans to put 12" Disco pressings, previously "For Disco DJs Only: into regular commercial production.

The first release- 'Ten Percent" by Double Exposure. The new 12 inch release will feature the 9.15 and 7.07 disco mixes, one track on each side.

The new discs, packaged in new Salsoul Disco Sleeves punched out in the center so as to expose label copy and shrink wrapped like regular LPs.

This giant 45 will bear a suggested list price of $2.98 (equivalent to $17.35 or £10.15 accord to 1976 exchange rates).

BILLBOARD DISCO CHARTS

Hi guys- some clarity. Disco didn't "die" in July 1979. it continued to flourish.

Looking back at contemporary Billboard Magazines of the era confirms this.

Billboard didn't publish a "post disco/funk/ boogie" chart

Billboard continued to publish a DISCO Chart (with a subtle change to DANCE/DISCO right through until September 1987 when finally DISCO was discreetly dropped from the title without fanfare and the weekly BILLBOARD DANCE CHART became the new title.

It never died but like all genres it evolved.

Thank you for your attention to this Matter
