Hey folks, running into an issue that I just cannot decide on one way or another. I have a 2014 Ford Escape (180k, Titanium, 4D w/ Hatch, 2WD, bought w/ cash) that has been having shifting/transmission issues but is otherwise in good shape for high mileage. Took to dealer and my problem essentially boils down to rebuild/re-manufactured transmission or scrap/sell.

Been calling around, best price I can find on repair from reputable place is around $4500, closer to $5500 once you consider taxes/tow, but I know from KBB/similar vehicles my car (if running) would be worth only about that base repair cost. So, do I save my money considering the mileage and scrap/sell the car or stomach the repair cost?

We have a second, newer car that is financed atm (2021 Ford Ecosport) so for 3 people (wife/baby/me) it kind of works but would leave us in a bind if it craps out too. Let me know if I am not considering something else, but I really love the Escape and hate to see it go but financially I just don't think it will be worth it in the end with how many miles it has.
