Hello! I’m posting here because I’m not super sure what to do, and I was wondering if anybody could provide any pointers.
I’m 18, and I’m graduating high school this spring. I’ve always wanted to be involved in theatre on stage, but never got the chance—too nervous freshman year, and for the rest of my years in high school I played in the pit orchestra for school productions. A community theater near me is doing my favorite show, Spring Awakening, and I really want to audition for it. I want to audition for Wendla specifically, but I plan to put one of the other girls like Thea or Anna down too as sort of a backup. I don’t think I’m going to get it, but there’s no harm in at least trying!
Honestly, I’m just really out of my depth with what to do for the audition. I have experience with music auditions and being nervous for them, but those were all for band. The audition sheet says that I need to have a 32 bar cut prepared from either the show itself or in the style of the show, and I thought I might audition with either Mama Who Bore Me or The Guilty ones, but both of Wendla’s sections of those songs are shorter than 32 bars. Where is a good place to get sheet music? Help!
Thank you for reading my ramble if you’ve gotten this far. Please put any pointers or tips here because I need all the help I can get!
edit: okay one more question because I forgot before—with the 32 bars, is it strict on that exact amount? I’ve seen people saying this is more a guideline for an audition that’s about a minute or a minute and a half. I was wondering because the songs I was looking at are in the 28/29 bar range, but they’re very slow so they’re deceptively long! Thank you all so much I appreciate!!!
