Hey everyone,

I graduated in July 2025 and I’m planning to apply for a German student visa for a public university (for Winter intake).

I have a gap period after graduation, and honestly I’m a bit concerned about how much it can affect my visa approval.

During this time, I’ve been:

Preparing for IELTS

Learning German (A1/A2 level)

Doing some self-study in my field

I can also mention that I took some time for mental reset/clarity before committing to higher studies.

My main questions:

Is this kind of gap acceptable for a German student visa, especially for public universities?

Do I need to show strong proof like certifications, internships, or projects in my domain?

Is mentioning IELTS + German prep + “mental clarity” enough, or does that sound weak to visa officers?

How strictly do German visa officers evaluate gaps compared to countries like Canada/UK?

Would really appreciate honest insights, especially from people who had a similar gap or went through the visa process recently.

Thanks!
