My home theater room is 12 feet wide, ~18 feet deep, and 7.6 feet tall, with a futon at the middle-back. the walls are tablecloths, so there is a fair amount of sound absorption within the space. I'm currently planning a 5.1 channel surround setup to replace my current stereo setup (see note at the end) because I have a movie night with 11 people planned on the 19th, and I'm trying to find a way to convert the HDMI from my Xbox Series X into 5 speaker wire outputs for C, FR, FL, SR, and SL speakers, and a line level output for a subwoofer. I have only been looking into surround for a couple of days or so, so I may not have a proper understanding but I think that's what I need.
I found this Pyle amp for $89 from Walmart (or $113 from Amazon) and it seems like it's too good to be true. I never fully trust AI (which is why I'm asking here) but I asked Claude and it said the Pyle doesn't have enough output (20W per channel, 100W total) to make the speakers loud enough for my room without distorting the sound. Is that true? (I mean, it even just looks too small looking at it.) Are there any other issues I may run into with this amp, and if so, any suggestions for other amps I can get without breaking the bank?
I am an 18 y/o college student with a part-time job so ideally I'd spend under $200 or so on this amp if that's possible, especially since I am already spending on the other parts of this setup.
Alternatively, at this budget would it be worth it to ditch true 5.1 input and just get this other Pyle amp (that apparently just simulates/upmixes from a stereo signal because there's no HDMI or coax or optical input) for $88 but actually seems to have enough (listed 300, although that may just be a marketing number) watts?
Finally, I want to ask about this Yamaha amp (for literally $69) which I know is a well respected product and definitely has enough watts, but it's used, as well as suspiciously cheap, and also may not arrive in time for a movie night I have planned on the 19th.
Note: My current setup is just two Aiwa SX-NV20 speakers on either side of my screen. The HDMI from the Xbox is connected to my projector, then the audio from the projector is sent through a stereo Pyle PDMUX9 interface, then into a stereo Pyle PDA29BU amplifier, and then into the speakers. Do I need to replace these speakers as well, or will they work as my front speakers? I bought the Pyle PDA29BU amp to replace an old-ass Aiwa CX-NV20U that I had been using before, but it actually is worse because the Aiwa is made for those speakers (it literally came with them) and powers them properly, whereas I have already noticed some distortion at high volumes with the Pyle PDA29BU amp and these speakers.
(also if ur thinking of just telling me "pyle sucks" i already know this but im a cheapskate sooo 😭 id rather have actual suggestions then lol- ok thanks!!)
Edit: I just noticed that shipping on the Yamaha is $105 because it's in Arizona so that's added onto the $69 price tag
UPDATE: I found a Denon AVR-1911 7.1 for $150 on Facebook Marketplace, 3 miles away. Is that good for what I'm trying to do??
