Have we tried just hoping REALLY hard?

I think the reason the Frame hasn't come out yet is that maybe we all just don't want it bad enough. If we each just spend a couple hours chanting to ourselves about how much we need a Steam Frame right this instant, it will definitely release tomorrow. After all, isn't RAM just, like, a social construct or something?

What do you think the price difference between the 256GB and 1TB models will be?

I plan to pretty much exclusively stream from my PC, since I have decent specs and like having everything in one place. As such, I'll almost definitely be getting the 256GB model of the Frame. Presumably that'll mean it costing at least a bit less, which is nice for what's generally going to be a pretty big purchase.

Out of curiosity, what is everyone's guesses on what that price difference is going to be? Currently the Steam Deck 512GB OLED is listed at $549.00, and the 1TB OLED is $649.00, which would imply that it might be a difference of at least $100, which on the one hand makes sense to me but I also don't want to get my hopes up too much.

Also relevant to this, I suppose, is whether y'all think that the "less than the Index" target they talked about was meant to refer to the 256GB or 1TB model. Obviously that's just a target, and there's all kinds of stuff that's happened since then, but it's at least conceptually relevant given it's the only actual hint towards a price plan, and it's definitely what I've been building my guesses around. Personally it seems like it'd be strange for that to be referring to the 256GB model, so I'm kinda inclined towards the rather comforting thought that I might end up paying like $100 less than what I've been bracing myself to spend on this.

Sorry if this isn't exactly what this subreddit is for, but I've gotten suddenly fascinated by a particular melody that seems to pop up in a whole bunch of places. I started by trying to find where I'd heard it before and now I've built up a list of examples and want to add more to it.

I'd love to hear any other examples you guys can find

(I know things aren't generally going to plan already, and there are all kinds of outside influences that affect stock and such; I get that we don't actually know how the Steam Frame launch will go.)

As someone who doesn't really watch a lot of hardware stuff, but is very excited for the Steam Frame and is seeing how quickly the Steam Controllers sold out, I figured I'd see what people here think. Based on how things have worked for Valve in the past, what kinds of things might one expect for the Steam Frame launch?

Personally I'm not worried about getting it on the very first day or anything as much as scenarios like "It's available for an hour and then it takes months to appear again" or "You can get it within a week or two but it'll take a year to actually arrive at your door". How do you all think it's likely to play out?

Each operator has not only a signature weapon, but a default gear loadout. This loadout can be seen when you do their Operator Guide Training mission, preview them on a banner, or preview them from their Bond Quota Employment Contract. I assume this is also what is used for any Immersion Mode missions, but I haven't specifically checked.

This makes it tricky to find the default loadout for 4★ units, since they don't have any of the above. However, there are some times where a 4★ unit will appear in a different operator's Operator Guide, in which cases you can use the Operator menu to see what they're using. This is consistent across all appearances.

By checking every Operator Guide I have access to, I was able to find the "canon" equipment for Akekuri, Fluorite, and Estella: https://imgur.com/a/uq1HlVm

Unfortunately I didn't see Antal or Catcher appear anywhere, such that I could confirm theirs, too.

Here are the limitations of my process, in case anyone else wants to see if they can find more:

  • I do not have Gilberta, Laevatain, Rossi, or Zhuang Fangyi, so if any new Op Z7 members appear in those Operator Guide missions I don't have access to them
  • I quit once I reached the Ultimate stage, to save some time, so if any operators have multiple Ultimate stages and a new Op Z7 member appears in those, I would have missed it
  • It's possible that the duplicate tokens you get allow you to preview the operator just like the Employment Contracts. I haven't saved any, so I'll have to wait until I do more pulls to check

If anyone can find the default loadouts of the remaining two Op Z7 operators, do let me know!

This was I think 2016-2018 or so (could possibly be slightly earlier), and part of the whole thing is that it was this teenage girl livetweeting what was going on (similar to the diegetic waiting in games like Lifeline or Timecrest (both 2015)). The artist had several projects like this, which each had their own accounts — the one I remember was kind of a strange fiction thing (not really horror) which I think involved exploring some strange alternate dimension. I think the protagonist was blonde with circular glasses and maybe green eyes, and might have had a five-pointed star symbol somewhere in her design but that part's really shaky. I want to say her name was something like "Luna", but that could very easily not be the case.

Many posts included pictures taken by the protagonist, which were illustrations by the artist. It was a clean, digital comic kind of artstyle, though it never had any panels or anything — these were just meant to be photos taken in-universe.

I believe there were interactive elements, maybe through polls and such. At some point I want to say the characters were on a bus, with debris floating in the air, and heading towards some strange city in the distance, or towards some weird distortion.

Sorry for the scrappy details — it's been so long so I really just have bits and pieces which are tricky to fit together.

In this recent IGN article about Steam Hardware, they talk about the Controller launch and the delay for the Frame and Machine. I have what might be a dumb question about part of the article?

At one point they say this:

>As for when the Steam Machine is actually going to hit shelves, it's still a mystery. Valve assures us its close, and says it has some news to drop on that soon, but until it does, it's still just a guessing game.

Is this IGN saying that, in the same interview as the rest of the article, Valve's representative(s) also said this, and they just didn't include a direct quote, or is "us" the broader community of people anticipating the Steam Hardware launch and this could be sourced more directly? Sorry if this is obvious to people with more experience with, like, how people write news articles — it just seemed kinda ambiguous to me so I figured I'd clarify with y'all

I'm not someone who tends to get easily worked up about speculative stuff, but the various different discoveries for Steam Hardware recently have started to get me really excited about the Steam Frame potentially coming soon (probably because it's a product I'm looking forward to so much). I'm talking about stuff like the "wireless PC controller" shipment stuff, the unlisted Steam Controller unboxing video, and the review that came out then got deleted. Incredibly promising as far as indicators go imo.

That said, I'm also a bit worried about the fact that all three of these have been for the Steam Controller specifically. Obviously it's a pretty small sample size, but, especially given the fact that the Steam Controller is the least affected by the RAM issues, it makes me concerned that this could be an earlier Steam Controller release, with a corresponding announcement that the Steam Frame and Steam Machine are going to be delayed.

What do y'all think? It obviously seems like the intention at the start was to release them all together, but their plan was also to have announced much more information by now. When it comes to just, like, guessing about this for fun/cope, do you think we'll get all three together, or is this just going to be the Controller? If the Machine and Frame get delayed, do you think we'll at least get more info, and if so what kind?

My personal, entirely-uninformed guess would be that they'll at least give us more info on the Frame and Machine if they don't release with the Controller. It just seems insane that they'd stay with radio silence (especially after promising more info in the original FAQ) while the Controller also gets released. I'd obviously love a price and launch estimate, but even just a demo video, or a look at what's going to be available (like the ergonomics addon stuff that was talked about way back), would go a long way for me personally.
