I know I'm not the only one to be annoyed by this, and I'm not even necessarily directing it at the person who did the transcription (if it was a person and not an AI) because I know that manual transcription is difficult work, but it is so frustrating how sometimes they get lines so wrong when it is actually very clear what the writing says. It's like they didn't even try.
There are absolutely records that are practically illegible, and for those I am impressed when they're even mostly correct. But this specific gripe is about a line in the 1950 census that clearly reads: "Occupation: Instructor in sodering[sic] assembly" and "Industry: Radio Parts Plant" But the transcription says "Occupation: Instructor in ???"
And I'm heated about it because this is the 1950 census record for 40yo WOMAN, and as an example of skilled women still working in industrial spaces post-WW2, I feel like it's an important example to preserve. But yet, the computer text over handwriting just says "Instructor in ???" and it's giving "I guess this woman was a teacher or something, Idk." vibes for something that was actually very easy to read.
Anyway, thank you for listening to my rant today.
