Hi everyone! I'm an early career researcher looking to get a tablet mostly for work, but also for some hobby work. I'll split my requirements withing two categories:

  1. Research Work: Main activities here will be reading papers, taking notes in meetings/class/conferences, reference managements, it will definitely not be my main device as I already have a powerful setup to handle most of my more intensive activities.
  2. Hobbies: I like to draw in my free time. I currently have a tablet I use on my main set up with Clip Studio (been using it for years), but I would like to be able to draw on the go sometimes.
  3. Other activities: Maybe I'll read an eBook on the train or watch a YouTube video once in a while, but I don't plan on using it for gaming - I have consoles and my main setup for that.

I'd rather not break the bank on the purchase of a secondary device - I already got the setup of my dreams this year, so my wallet is not very flush. As a frame of reference, I find Apple products to be a bit spicy in terms of price, with my ideal iPad config sitting at around 2.3k euro.

I have seen the iPad Pro to be a very popular recommendation, but I am hesitant to enter the Apple ecosystem. I don't particularly like the look, feel or ethos of the company, but I can recognise that the iPad seems to be very well-regarded. I have no other Apple products and I am not tempted to get any aside from the iPad. I'm not sure how that experience will be.

Any recommendations, suggestions or questions are welcome.

Thank you for reading ❤️
