Interesting find about Panasonic Inverter Microwave

As you all know, Panasonic inverter microwaves actually reduce the power instead of cycling between 0/100. I decided to analyze the different power setting and share my discovery with you so we can all better use these appliances. For certains actions or reheating I believe it can have a positive impact.

Panasonic 1200 watts NN-SD671S with Inverter Technology. All measurements at walls with P3 k!ll-a-watt rounded to 10. Since were are talking about pre-converted power usage, 1000 watts used doesnt mean 1000 watts of cooking power. But we can observe pattern and correlation between measurement.

Power 10: cycle between 50w (long) and 1000w (short).

note: you can actually hear the microwave switching between high/low

Power 20: cycle between 50w(mid), 1000w(short) and 650watts(short-mid)

Power 30: consistently @ 650w

Power 40: consistently @ 775w

Power 50: consistently @ 1025w (quite an impressive jump from power 40, non linear)

Power 60: consistently @ 1150w

Power 70: consistently @ 1250w

Power 80: consistently @ 1375w

Power 90: consistently @ 1600w (another non-linear jump from power 80)

Power 100: consistently @ 1800w

Conclusion:

-Power 10 and 20 is marketing gimmick since the inverter used in most of their 200$ microwave cannot invert below power 30. I believe power 30 to be superior for some low-power kitchen tasks due to the fact that it never spike above 650w.

-Unexpected jump between power 40»50 and power 80»90.

Kinda explain odd behavior I was observing in the pasts few years. Like the intensity of reheating between 40 and 50. It also prove me right to continues using power 90 instead of default 100.

Current Breville model are 9 and 16cup. 12cup would better fit my need I believe. I’m wondering if by going to the older Breville SousChef 12 models (10 years warranty vs 30 and heavier) i’m losing anything? Price difference vs a 16cup souschef is 50% less.
