How to install any font in Canva the right way (most people skip one step and wonder why it stops working)

If you downloaded a font and it is not showing up in Canva, or it uploaded but looks broken, here is what is actually happening.

Canva only accepts OTF and TTF files. It does not accept ZIP files, font folders, or variable fonts. The most common mistake is uploading the ZIP directly without extracting it first. That single step causes 90 percent of the problems people report.

Here is the exact process that works every time.

Step 1. Download your font. It will come as a ZIP file.
Step 2. Extract the ZIP on your device before doing anything else. This is the step most people skip.
Step 3. Open Canva. If you are on a paid plan, go to Brand Kit. If you are on the free plan, open any design, click the text tool, and look for Upload a Font.
Step 4. Upload only the OTF or TTF file. One file at a time. Do not upload the folder. Do not upload the ZIP.
Step 5. Wait 10 to 30 seconds for Canva to process it. Do not close the tab while it loads.
Step 6. Refresh your design. The font will appear under Your Fonts.

If it still does not show up, the file is likely a format Canva does not support. Check the file extension first before assuming the font is broken.

I made a free guide on this that also covers where to find commercial-use fonts and how to pair them properly. Drop a comment or DM me if you want the link and I will share it.
