Breezer Jet Stream

Hello community,

I hope my bike fits here. Let me introduce you to my Breezer Jet Stream. The bike is from the mid 90s. I used to ride it a lot back in the day, as did my father and my brother. It still lives at my parents’ house, although sadly it doesn’t get ridden very often anymore.

A short while ago I got back into cycling, and during a recent family visit I got on the Breezer again for the first time in years. Oh man, the geometry feels SO different compared to a modern gravel bike. 😄

But once you get used to it again, it’s still incredibly fun to ride. I absolutely loved this bike back then.

After last weekend I started thinking about putting some more love into the old bike and turning it into a small project. I still think the frame looks beautiful and honestly it rides surprisingly well even today.

A few years ago — helped by the whole Covid bike boom — quite a few parts were already replaced:

shifters

crankset

complete drivetrain (chain, cassette, etc.)

So I probably wouldn’t want to change too much in that area.

After the first ride I immediately noticed one of the tubes losing air. I patched it, but honestly I don’t think it will last very long because the tube already looks pretty cracked and aged.

On my gravel bike I already switched to TPU tubes and I’m extremely happy with them. Can I use TPU tubes safely on old 26” rims like these?

Another thing: On my gravel bike I use hybrid SPD pedals — flat on one side and clipless on the other. I would love something similar for this bike, but ideally something that visually fits the bike a bit better. Any ideas for nice SPD-compatible pedals that would suit a 90s steel MTB?

What do you think about the current tire choice?

Right now it has Continental Race King 2.0 tires installed. They were fitted by the bike shop back then. They’re honestly not bad, but on asphalt they are obviously nowhere near as fast as my Schwalbe G-One R tires on the gravel bike. I’d maybe like something that fits the 90s vibe a bit more.

Speaking of 90s vibe: The current frame bag is practical, but not exactly beautiful. 😄

Does anyone have ideas for a stylish bag that would fit this bike well?

I definitely do NOT want to modernize it too much or destroy the character of the bike.

Would also love to see your old Breezers.
