Why do you only give 1 option?!

Some EAs really get on my last nerve… The ones who just send an updated meeting invite and then email your CEO directly (within the invite update) to ask if it works - so basically they cut you (the EA) out, even though they have worked with you / know you’re the EA. Then, when you email them back directly, and say “unfortunately that time doesn’t work”, and give them a couple alternate options - they respond with “no” and give you 1 other option to work with, no further explanations. I understand some execs only have 1 slot available in a week - if that’s the case, let me know so I don’t waste my time looking for additional options. Or send me additional options for next wk along with that 1 slot. Furthermore, if YOU are the one asking to reschedule, you should be sending ME alternate options.

I have no college degree, so I consider myself pretty successful in my field. The fintech and healthcare companies both had mass layoffs, otherwise I honestly would have stayed at both. Now working at a very small company and as we grow I’ve been getting steady pay increases / expect to be back at 160k in the next 1-2yrs!

I’m curious who else has an amazing exec team?! Would love to spread some positivity, since this role can often times be under appreciated and overlooked. I support my CEO and a few other c-suites, and I adore them. I joined as the 6th employee at 100k (which was a big cut from my previous role that laid off 1/2 the company in 2024). Now that we’re busy and have grown a lot, I was due for a raise. I got bumped to 130k and couldn’t be happier. My execs thank me constantly, and let me grow in other areas like HR and Ops as I request. I can tell they value my work, my input, and my time. For Admin professionals day they also gave me a $1000 bonus. Anyone else out there with great execs?

I’m so conflicted right now. I started my current role roughly 15 months ago - the company was brand new (6 months) and I was the 5th employee of our main operating company. I was hired to assist the CEO, CGO, and COO (although 90% of my work came from the CEO initially). Both myself and my CEO acknowledged that we were a brand new startup and there wasn’t a *need* for an EA at the time - and that eventually this role would evolve into the strategic EA role that I’m typically used to. My previous role for a NYC company (remote) was 160k. This role is DC based (remote) and I was hired at 100k.

At this point, I’ve helped build and implement processes for finance, HR, and operations, and continually go outside my EA scope (though I feel this is typical in any EA role lol). I own multiple projects, drive initiatives, and work behind the scenes on so much, while still being the only EA. I’ve also worked closely with our head of HR and basically assist her as well, and our CFO.

My CEO mentioned back in February that we should discuss comp changes. It’s now May, and nothing has happened. I’ve seen several emails (I own her inbox) about other employees with shorter tenure being given large raises (20-30k+). My CEO sees these requests and approves them.

I’ve really enjoyed this role so far and I have 0 complaints or concerns aside from salary. The leadership team is fantastic and a group of genuinely kind people. But I find myself conflicted because it seems I’ve been forgotten.

I plan to bring up the comp discussion during my next 1:1 with my CEO (after all, she is the one who mentioned it first), but I can’t help but to feel a certain way here. I’ve been a strategic EA for 11years now. I took a pay cut because it was a startup and my role was smaller at the time. But now? I feel I deserve a significant bump in pay, and I just wish I didn’t have to ASK for one.

It’s hard being an EA sometimes, we’re always forgotten in one way or another. Even with the best CEO.
