Hi all,

I'm a mom of Irish twins, born almost twelve months apart. My eldest was born in early October and my youngest in late September. Our district cutoff date is September 30th, so by calendar regulations, they should be going into kindergarten as the same class. The kids have been attending preschool together and get along well, but I can imagine how things might play out a little differently once they're in school, if both were a year apart but in the same grade. An option I've been told is to send my son a year earlier and have him take a test. I worry because this is quite an uncommon thing to do in my district, and he won't turn 5 until more than a month after school starts. He is already small for his age and being the youngest in his grade certainly wouldn't help. Or, if I wanted to separate them, I could have my daughter start a year later. Does this count as "redshirting"? Developmentally, my daughter is about as mature and independent as her brother. I wouldn't want to risk her being bored in school, either. If anyone has any thoughts or experiences, I'd be grateful to know!
