Geforce Now build on a budget
Hey everyone, I’m currently using a Dell Inspiron 5406 2-in-1 (11th Gen Intel) that I had in my college, but it’s really struggling with high-bitrate decoding on GeForce NOW Ultimate. I get noticeable frame processing delay and stuttering when I try to push the stream at high refresh rates.
My goal is to build a dedicated desktop "decoder box" that can handle 1440p @ highest refresh rates at high bitrates without breaking a sweat, for the lowest possible cost. I don’t plan on buying a dedicated GPU right now, so I’m relying entirely on integrated graphics for AV1 decoding.
Here is the "Bare-Bones" core setup I’ve put together based on my limited knowledge and research:
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 5 225 (Selected for the new Xe2 Media Engine / AV1 hardware decoding) Motherboard: MSI PRO B860M-A WIFI RAM: DDR5 5200MHz (16 GB)
Barebones storage, an old 600w PSU I have lying around, some cheap case.
PS: I am from India and used market is limited and new PC components come at a premium. I get <5 ms ping, connected via ethernet via a very good internet connection. Intel Arc GPUs are stupid expensive and Mac M4 mini is expensive too.
Any technical feedback is appreciated! Thank you in advance.
