I have 14 kittens and just filled an RX for liquid metronidazole (oil) 62.5mg/ml that ALL have Giardia stemming from 2 Foster’s that we took in needing lactating mom (these are 4 litters but all share 8 litter-boxes ). This would be the third time I’d helped this rescue and the two times prior everything checked out vet health check wise prior to bringing babies into the home but day five it was absolutely apparent that these two babies got MY ENTIRE HEALTHY HOUSE SICK! I have a large bottle of the right meds but had to use a local compound pharmacy (I guess used for humans but it says “vet” on the bottle but there’s ZERO INSTRUCTIONS as to how much to give per weight of kitten. Unlike most medications (panacur, praziquantel, Intrafungol, ect.) that have charts in the box the meds come in that give dosage by weights this isn’t the case for this family owned compound pharmacy. It’s just a bottle with a label that says “use as directed “… WTF?!?!? I’ve weighed EACH BABY. Weights vary from 1 lbs 11 oz (runt and SHE DESPERATELY NEEDS this medication bc with her already this tiny a drop in weight due to diarrhea and lack of fluids is LIFE THREATENING!!!) to 4 lbs 13 oz (the largest). Most babies are in the higher oz 2 lbs range to 3-4 lbs. I can’t find ANY CHART online that gives medication dosage per weight but know I have to do every 12 hours for ten days. I AM BEGGING FOR HELP! I’m spending $36 on litter every 3 days, $30 a week on probiotics, have spent $900 in a month and a half on vet bills, $190 on medications, then there’s the flavorless prophetic formula, food ect…. My option is to pay another $79 for a vet appointment for them to just tell me a DOSAGE that I DONT HAVE ( bc of this no good deed goes unpunished … fyi I WILL NEVER EVER AGAIN help this or ANY OTHER RESCUE AGAIN, they took back the two babies 5 days later and apologized saying that the fecal tests prior to dropping them off came back “normal” but REFUSED TO RELEASE the vet records for the two babies PRIOR TO when I took them in, only sharing results AFTER they’d taken them back and bc I’ve put up a fuss bc THEY KNEW I had a house full of healthy Highlander, Siamese and Maine coon babies and was ONLY Helping bc they were supposed to have been FULLY VETTED and now I’m up shits creek paddling with my own cash they since stopped responding it’s now been RADIO SILENCE!!! The two babies tested positive for Giardia after the fact and I pinched pennies to take for a definitive answer a huge fecal collection from one of the two kitten litter-boxes only taking in however one of my babies bc it’s $79 just to walk through the door PER KITTEN and it was confirmed that’s now what my sweet babies have as well (all other fecal tests were negative) I tried to get a dosage chart and was told they’d have to “see all kittens” which makes ZERO SENCE!!! I just need a DOSAGE CHART FOR ORAL METRONIDAZOLE (compound liquid , OIL based not water) 62.5 mg/ml for feline with weight ranging from 1lbs 11 oz … again, just the one… up to 4 lbs 13oz. I have now $11 in my checking account…. BEGGING for some KIND HUMAN BEING TO TELL ME what the ml amount is per lbs of kitten. PLEASE!!!
