Job opportunity (mistake?)
I was offered a job opportunity by a very good friend whose large restoration company wanted to start a plumbing company as well. I took it thinking it had potential even though it wasn't great pay to begin with. The pay is 1k a week for the first 3 months or 30% commission, whichever is higher and the commission peters down to 20% by the end of 1 year of employment by them. The jobs I've done for them so far haven't even put me above 1k in a week and they're expecting me to do a lot of non income generating work since they know I'm getting a base pay. The biggest problem I have with this is that I've been working for myself for the last year averaging $1000-1500 a week working roughly 20-30 hours a week and charge far more per hour then I'd make with them even if the business really picks up. I don't think I'll even be ok with only collecting 20% of a total job cost and will absolutely not do anything for them if I stay to the time period when it goes to commission only. I'm just wanting feedback about what I should do or hear thoughts from anyone that works on a commission only basis. Advice?
