Matthew 19:21 - Wealth/money

21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

I’m by no means an expert on the Bible or Christianity, but this verse has always stuck with me even through atheism. I am called to give, help, sacrifice, pour out my cup for others.

…I find myself now trying to decide what to do with a sizable savings/inheritance. The world tells me to invest and “secure” my/my family’s future. My heart tells me to give it away to those who need it more than I.

What would you do? Advise? Insight? Thoughts?

I’m in search of advice or guidance on how to progress on my journey of faith. Details below. If anyone has been in similar shoes or has suggestions for materials/actions/etc. that would be helpful, please share.

I was raised in the Catholic Church. During my early teens, I completely rejected anything having to do with religion. My experience of the Catholic Church was very negative. I was atheist for a little while, and then agnostic for a decade or so. Over the past few years, I’ve been slowly opening back up to the idea of God and I want to build a relationship with him. I want to have faith and truly believe, but I don’t really know where to start.
