BLUF: Not storing POV through the VPCs, looking for another option that others have been successful with.
PCSing in June to Korea from Bragg and am authorized to store my POV, the Transportation office at the SSC said the VPC is the only option to store a vehicle on the governments dime. I’ve heard horror stories and also don’t feel comfortable letting a japanese classic car sit for 3+ years, or having a schmuck joyride or mess something up. I’m not selling no matter how tempting and easy it may seem. I’ve seen stories of people going through 3rd party programs and having their transportation either monthly or bi-annually requiring orders and the receipt and they reimburse it with no issue. When i brung this up to the Transportation office they said they don’t know anything about that and the only way id be reimbursed/ covered is if i store with a VPC.
Has anyone has any success going around VPCs when dealing with POV Storage for PCS or anything? my very last resort is sending it cross country to my father in law to look after in southern California.
Edit:
Also, section B3a of JTR 0532 states:
If Government storage is available, then a Service member may personally arrange POV storage at either the Service-designated facility or a commercial storage facility other than the Service-designated facility.
-Reimbursement is for the actual storage cost and limited to what it would have cost the Government to store the POV.
So this cant be impossible.
