Now that it's confirmed that this Boss Nob is the Boyz' unit champion, how will its 40mm base affect the unit in-game?
In the old kit, you'd build either a boy or a boss nob, depending on whether you were adding 10 to an existing unit or making a new unit. But now, that 20th model would have to be on a 40mm no matter what, so something will have to change.
Here are a few ways I think they could handle it:
- The Lazy Way - like how squighogs just add an extra box, boss nob included, to make the larger set, have 1 boss nob per 10, and so 2 boss nobz in a 20 mob.
- I don't love this from a lore perspective. 2 squad leaders doesn't feel very orky, and I was disappointed when they gave it to hogs in the 10th ed codex, though it makes sense logistically.
- The Old Way - like the old kit, you do get an extra boy in the multipart, but it's the (currently nowhere to be seen) heavy weapons boy on the 40mm as a larger option that would make sense on a larger base. Maybe it shares bits with the nob's kombi weapon.
- This is the one I would love and feel like a clever little grot for thinking up tbh. Now I just have to hope someone at GW got similarly clever...
- The Bougie Way - they add an extra 32mm base (and a whole extra boy) in the kit to make that 20th boy.
- It seems incredibly unlikely for GW to give out anything extra, let alone a whole base (unheard of afaik), but I figured I'd cover my bases.
- The Bad Way - like 30-boy mobs before them, 20-boy mobs no longer exist.
- "Zog off, we couldn't be bothered." - GW
I'd love to know your thoughts on these and/or anything you've thought of.
PS: I know the current 'new' kit also does not allow for a 20th boy either, but that is exactly why the old kit is still on shelves alongside it, having 2, or even 3 boxes on the shelves is bad business, and I am assuming 1 new multipart kit will replace all of these
