What hours do you report as a remote researcher with flexible hours? It's my first few weeks working as an academic.
I just began co-authoring my first research project. I work remote and the hours are flexible. On my contract, it says that the specific hours I work will be established with my supervisor, and my supervisor said my role is 40 hours a week. However, I keep getting my reading and assigned research tasks done with so much time to spare, and I am unsure what to do.
I don't want to keep asking for extra work, especially if I don't need to be doing it. There also seems to be lots of waiting for other things to get done before this work becomes available to me, so I just end up with nothing to do. Besides, I really need the money.
On the other hand, I obviously don't want to get in trouble with my supervisor, although she did explicitly tell me that my position involves that certain number of weekly hours. Either way, I absolutely will be available for the allotted time for whatever readings and data come my way.
Do I just keep reporting what my supervisor said until somebody says something? Thoughts?
