so a little background- i’ve been diagnosed for a bit over a year but i’ve been dealing with FND for about 4 years. i’ve been using a hospital chair for almost 2 years, and been using mobility aids in general for 3 years. i’ve been in and out of PT for all 4 years, but only been in PT specialized for FND for a year. As time goes on my main symptom (joint pain) as been getting worse. i can only walk for around 10-15 minutes a day. i’ve had to switch to online school bc i couldn’t consistently go to school bc of flares.
i’ve talked to my doctors before abt getting a better wheelchair but they all just tell me to wait longer to see if my symptoms get better. I’m looking for a job rn and im planning to go back to in person school next year but i can’t do any of that w/o a chair. my doctors all say im getting better bc im getting out of the house more and talking abt my symptoms less. but while im getting out of the house more its only bc im using my wheelchair, and after i get out of the house i flare. if i dont use my chair im flared for much longer. and i bring my symptoms up less bc there usually aren’t any major changes in them so i dont see the point in repeating myself at every appointment. i’m really not sure how to get to doctors to believe that i need a chair, or if they really believe i don’t need a chair then give me actual resources to get better. everyone seems to just keep telling me to wait and i’ll get better but how long do i need to put my entire life on hold before i get better? im a teenager and i just want to live a normal life teenage life, hanging out with my friends, going shopping, going to school, having a job, etc. but currently i can’t do any of that, or at least not w/o my chair. unfortunately i only have a hospital chair which i can’t rlly push independently, so i wouldnt be able to have a job or go to school with it. i’m js rlly unsure of what to do.
