45F should I get a second opinion on surgery?
I'm scheduled for surgery soon. I'm thinking I might need a second opinion.
A few weeks ago I got a really painful non bleeding stage 3 internal hemorrhoid. Nothing OTC was helping. I was given prescription suppositories and it made it SO much better. A week off the suppositories and its still shrinking and I haven't had any pain. Just a little pressure.
I had been referred to a general surgeon specializing in endocrine surgery.
He said if we were in the jungles of Africa we'd do a rubber band litigation. And scheduled me for hemorrhoidectomy surgery....anesthesia with excision.
He made it sound like I'd wake up and feel better and I'd basically be back to normal right away. When I got home, I started googling. It seems the recovery period is rough. He didn't explain any of that to me.
I'm wondering if I should get a second opinion. Honestly I'd prefer to try the rubber band litigation first because I have no way to take a week off let alone more. I have young kids and need to be active for work and them. Also, since I'm not even in discomfort now I'd really rather avoid surgery if possible.
