Hey everyone,
I just wanted to share my experience because honestly, I wasn’t prepared for this at all.
I reduced my Sertraline from 100mg to 50mg thinking it would be a simple step… but the first few days were way more intense than I expected.
Highlights:
Around day 3–4, symptoms peaked hard
Strong dizziness (especially when standing suddenly)
Nausea + weird “brain zap” / electric sensations
Felt scary, but I was still functional
Sleep actually became deep and natural
Mood started improving before physical symptoms
Ignoring symptoms helped more than overthinking
What it actually felt like:
The dizziness was the worst part. Not full spinning, but more like waves—especially when moving or changing position. At one point I even got these short “electric shock” sensations in my head, which honestly freaked me out at first.
What confused me the most was that I’ve used benzos before, and switching those never felt like this. This felt more like my brain was trying to “recalibrate” rather than just calm down.
The strange part:
Even when symptoms were at their peak, I noticed:
I could still walk
I could still sit and function
I wasn’t actually in danger
But it felt intense.
The turning point:
One big thing I noticed was my sleep.
It suddenly became deep and undisturbed.
And slowly, even though the physical symptoms were still there, my mood started improving a bit.
That made me realize: Recovery doesn’t always start physically—it can start mentally.
What helped me:
Moving slowly (especially standing up)
Not staying on an empty stomach
Short walks instead of staying inside all day
Stopping constant symptom checking
Just accepting: “Okay, this is temporary”
Where I am now:
Symptoms are still there, but:
They feel more manageable
I’m less scared of them
My mindset is way better than day 1
Final thought:
If you’re going through this: It can feel intense, but it doesn’t mean something is wrong.
Your brain is adjusting.
Would really like to hear if others experienced similar things during dose reduction.
