Beginner Question: Drafting a Kicker and Defense Before Bench Depth?
I’m a relatively new fantasy player (last season was my first time and I only won three games), and I’m trying to improve my draft strategy for this year as being the punching bag in my friends/family money league wasn't very fun.
Last season, I filled up my bench on “sleeper” picks or backup options suggested by the "experts" before pursing a kicker and defense. But many of those players ended up not panning out and I dropped them over the course of the season.
This year, I’m considering a different approach: once my core roster is set, I’m thinking about using my late picks to secure a top-tier kicker (Brandon Aubrey) and a strong defense immediately for consistent weekly production, instead of gambling on bench players that may not work out for me.
Most fantasy guides say not to prioritize kicker/defense early or over bench depth, but as a less experienced player, I’m wondering if locking in reliable production at those positions might actually be more valuable for me than cycling through speculative bench picks?
