I have iPad Air (4th gen) on iPadOS 16.7.2 Right now it lets me update to 18.7.8 or 26.4.2

From what I've gathered 26.4.2 would be a mistake since the workarounds are either not there or much harder, but is 18.7.8 a viable update option?

I haven't felt the need to update that much thus far, although there are some app store games which look somewhat interesting that require iOS 18

Does anyone know if the best move is to update to 18.7.8 or stay on 16.7.2?
