I’ve lived in the Philippines for the past three years. Boy, has it been a trip. I’ve had so many adventures, fell in love a couple of times, and made memories I’ll cherish forever. I even learned Tagalog!
However, despite only being 28, I quickly made the decision that I want to spend the rest of my life there.
Until… I returned home. Let’s face it, comparing the PH to your home country is like night and day. After spending so much time away, coming back home was like a breath of fresh air.
The beautiful trees and the way their leaves change color every Fall. The sidewalks and crosswalks — cars gracefully stopping and allowing me to cross the road. The way I blend in with the crowd, instead of being the odd one out. The opportunities… the idea that I can work hard and truly become anyone and anything I want to be.
The list goes on & on.
Look, I’m not saying the Philippines isn’t wonderful. It exceeded every expectation I had for it.
What I’m saying is that I think I might’ve jumped too quickly to abandon my home country. I think I might’ve taken her beauty for granted. No, she’s not perfect… but boy is she beautiful.
So… I think I’ll give America another chance.
