The lore is pretty much after the season 8 end event, instead of the island flipping the loopers and seven manage to mostly kick out the last reality of the island, then they started repairing the island. Also, steamystacks fell it and it polluted the water nearby and also again part of the ice moon fell onto the northwestern part of the map and huge flooding happened.
