Want opinion on how relevant UI/UX will be in some years time

I have a technical background in CS engineering, but always had inclination towards design. I was very clear after Btech that I wanted to be a UI/UX designer, but during placements recruiter told me design is very much replacable and things like that, so I gave up on that and took job in Network industry. I was working as IT support for 2 years then I resigned as I felt not me there. I was good at work but it was not satisfying job for me. I thought of going for higher studies, so right now in the preparation for that. But I will have gap of 1 year until I get in. So recently again I got an opputunity for working in an early stage startup for design and frontend and when I did that I felt good. So I'm thinking of putting some effort and getting into design career. I understand market is saturated now, but just wanted an opinion if design jobs would still be relevant in couple of years or should I just stick to technical domain.
