I felt my compensation was below the market standard and had a discussion with my manager.
They are willing to give me a hike, but as per policy HR will give a raise only as a counter offer. I don't have time to prepare and get an offer right now. And I am willing to stay if the compensation is adjusted since the work and team is good.
How do I approach this? Any suggestions from someone who was in a similar boat?
Can I fake an offer? If so, how? What will be the consequences?
