Disclaimer: I'm not good with tech and in speaking in English. If you can help me without too much jargons, I'd appreciate it greatly.

For context, I accidentally downloaded an infostealer. They did get access to 2 of my GMails, Discord, EA and Steam, and Instagram. They also tried accessing my Microsoft and Facebook account. Changed all of my passwords and enabled Two-Factor Authentication and I'm set to have my laptop's Windows freshly reinstalled.

Grown anxious that's why I am here asking questions:

  1. Would it be safe for me to use my old Windows License that came with the laptop? Or should I get an entirely new one?

  2. Upon offline scan (I found a LummaStealer, I do not know what does that mean but I removed it), I did discover about BitLocker. What does BitLocker do? It says that I have a recovery key. What do I do with it? Can I use that same key on a fresh Windows and still be safe?

  3. How do I properly use Password Managers and what password managers would you recommend?

  4. Throughout this experience, I have discovered that Google Authenticator is not safe as it is not end-to-end encrypted (?). Is this true?

  5. I previously had my Google Authenticator synced to a Google account. However, after all the attack encounter, I opted not to have it synced in any of my accounts. Did I do the right thing?

  6. There are login attempts, however, I do not think they were successful. Can I relax even if there are attempts like these and when I check my "Devices logged in" or something like that, no suspicious devices are on the list? Or should I do something about it?

  7. Would it be okay to back up a few files then transfer it back to my cleaned laptop? For example, my exam sheet, lecture notes.

  8. Once I have everything clean, are there any safety measures or practices would you recommend for me to do? Like anything that I should add to my routine to help me secure my privacy and safety. 🥹

  9. Can you recommend me a good browser that I could use moving forward?

I have been so anxious for days. I think it will take me a long time to recover from this. I just want to do better next time. My budget is tight that's why I resorted to downloading applications from random websites. I learned my lesson now.
