My friend might have convinced me to join the air force, but I still have a lot questions.
I am a 23-year-old female and an army spouse. I was talking to a friend about how I almost joined the air force out of high school, but my plans had changed since then and I never joined. She was telling me that I should and about all the benefits and now I am genuinely considering it. Obviously dual BAH is a huge benefit. My main thing is the enlistment part of it.
I am currently working on my associates degree for finance with plans to get my bachelors. I know I can go in higher as an E3 with an associate so at the very least I want to wait until I get that. I was also thinking about waiting for my bachelor's to go in as an officer, but I heard that is a hard and competitive process. I don't know if it would be worth it to wait or just go in with an associate.
Another thing, I shattered my ankle back in 2021. It's healed now; I can walk and run just fine. But I am not sure if they will allow me to join with metal plates and screws in my ankle.
I am obviously worried about basic training, even though it's probably one of the easiest ones but at the very least I won't join for another 2 years so I will have time to prepare for that.
And I just want to make sure I can still stay close with my husband at joint bases. As far as I am concerned, he will not be leaving the army anytime soon, so I just don't want us to be stationed in two different spots.
Lastly, I just need some good words about the air force. I think the main thing is that I don't know a lot. I would be walking into the unknown and that scares me more than anything. But my friend did tell me that sometimes the unknown will be the best thing to ever happen to you. But I am still nervous thinking about it.
I haven't talked with my husband about it, he gets back from training tomorrow night so we will talk about it soon, but I just need some input on some of these things now to hopefully ease my mind and give me more information before talking with him about it.
Thank you all for taking the time to read all of this and share any advice, tips, and information you have on this.
