Uncle had a major stroke and went 30 hours without medical assistance. Is there any hope left?

My uncle (60 years old)had a stroke three weeks ago. What makes the situation especially tragic is that he lives alone, so he went about 30 hours without any medical help. Because he lives in a different canton (it means state in Switzerland), we didn’t even know what had happened for about a week and a half.

According to the doctors, he also had pneumonia at the beginning, and unfortunately, by the time he was found, it was too late for blood thinners to be effective. The stroke affected the left side of his brain, and as a result, he lost his ability to speak, his right side was paralyzed and he could no longer swallow.

Now, three weeks later, there have been small but meaningful improvements. With assistance, he can walk again, he is able to swallow, and he has managed to say “yes” and “no” a few times.

What makes this even harder is who he is as a person. He was a German teacher, very communicative, and someone you could talk to about anything. He read a lot, wrote himself, and was generally a very intellectual and thoughtful person.

I know I should primarily rely on the doctors, but I was wondering if anyone here has gone through something similar or has seen any miracles. I would really appreciate hearing your experiences — whether they offer hope or simply help me understand what the road ahead might look like.

Edit: Sorry, I meant the left side of his brain.
