When prey gets swallowed whole, how do they actually die?
Specifically thinking about Wading and diving birds, bass type fish and even whales..
As they are usually seen catching and eating whole and live prey, what happens to the meal as soon as they are swallowed? Is it immediate or slow death by stomach chemicals, do fish just suffocate from lack of water? Or other ways nature disposed of them?
How often does a meal agitate the mouth or throat just right and gets spit out before dying?
