I am currently in the ER after getting a very scary attack seemingly from nothing than just sitting down. All of a sudden I just felt how my lips started to burn, my chest felt heavy and I could barely swallow. My lips were bright red and my face was burning up. I got nauseous, felt an impending doom and my nose would not stop running. I took a desloratadin almost immediately but after a while I did not feel better so I called a medical advice number and they told me to go to the ER. I also got eczema on my hands, but that disappeared after about 15 mins after taking the desloratadin. My chest tightness and breathing issues lessened after taking a double dose of asthma spray. When I got to the ER, my face was still swollen and burning and my throat was horse and I still gad the impending doom feelings. After about 1,5 hour after taking the desloratadin my symptoms started to lessen, and that’s around the time the doctor was evaluating me. He just said that it didn’t sound like an allergic reaction because I did not have urticaria nor gastric issues. The thing is, I did have gastric issues because I got severe nausea. He said it was probably just a panic attack. Now my symptoms have mostly subdued but it has also been about 3 hours since taking the desloratadin and taking the asthma spray, but I can’t even imagine that a panic attack would cause eczema, a nose that won’t stop running and burning lips. I also know this was an allergic reaction because I always get cold shivers and can’t regulate my temperature after one. I am staying here for observation unless my symptoms get worse but holy shit, I can already feel the hypochondriac accusations because the ER doctor even mentioned that I have issues with depression (which I really don’t right now). I have had panic attacks before and they do not present like this, but it seems the doctor has already made up his mind and I don’t know how to deal with it. How can you even advocate for yourself in that situation?
