Question about paint on vintage toys
Hello Everyone,
I realize how rookie this question may be, but bear with me. My family has had this vintage tin top from West Germany for decades. At some point while it was packed away, it was mishandled and damaged on the bottom. I pulled out some tools to see if I can straighten it out. But as I was working to pry to top off, I realized that some of the paint on the edge was flaking off. Which then led to the thought that the paint on this toy probably has lead in it. I immediately stopped, wiped down my tools and vacuumed the area. I only got a few inches pried up before I had this realization.
So my question is, how dangerous was this small amount of paint? Did I do enough to clean it up? Does anyone else have experience restoring old toys like this and how did you handle the possible lead in the paint?
Any help is appreciated.
