Complete beginner handed a UV-converted Sony A7 — no idea where to start, please help!
Hi everyone, I have recently started my PhD and I've been given a camera to shoot UV photography with, but, I'm a complete beginner with literally no idea how it works or how to use it. Nobody who gave it to me knows either as it's been in storage for a long time.
Here's what I have:
- **Sony A7** with a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor (I believe it has been converted for UV photography internally, but I'm not 100% sure)
- **GOBE M42 to E-mount adapter** (to attach old M42 lenses to the Sony)
- **NEWYI M42-M42 25-55mm focusing helicoid** (an adjustable extension tube for focusing)
- A UV lens of some kind that attaches to the helicoid (photo attached)
I have a few questions:
How can I tell if the camera has actually been converted for UV, and what type of conversion it might be?
What camera settings should I start with?
What kind of light source do I need — can I shoot outdoors in sunlight or do I need a specific UV light?
Any other tips for a total beginner with this kind of setup?
Any general knowledge about UV photography would be much appreciated.
I'm based in Bristol, UK if that's relevant for light conditions. I've attached photos of the camera and accessories — any help at all would be massively appreciated. Thanks!
