I am getting back into running after 1.5/2 year break (life happened) and I am having a really hard time with my right calf feeling really tight. I’ve started by doing a walk run combo and stretching specifically my calfs and legs before runs with dynamic stretches (don’t know the name of any which I realize is not helpful).
During my runs I get maybe 30seconds before my left calf gets so tight I cant keep my very slow pace. My right calf isn’t as bad but still tighter than normal. This morning I was supposed to do only 4 sets of run 3seconds walk for a minute 30 and I could only do two of the four sets - and the second set was really hard. I’m noticing my calf’s feel tightest when my foot shifts my weight to my toes. I am not running through the extreme tightness, I push a little but I don’t want to injure myself. I am currently running in the ASICS Nimbus but have also tried the ON Cloud Runner Next.
If this context helps I work at a place with a lot of stairs and I’m standing all day. I also live at the bottom of a hill and have not had this calf tightness since living here for close to a year. I can also go for an hour plus walk and not have this problem.
I’m hoping someone might have advice from their own experience or even suggestions on stretches or if I should just go see a physio. I’m trying not to jump to the physio super quick cause I have to pay out of pocket.
