Employment/notice period and repayment for course
Long story short, a family member has a job which have treated him like dirt the longer he has been there. He was given some courses to obtain qualifications which he has since obtained. The cost of this was around £4000.
Fast forward and he has now found a new job with someone he previously worked with at this company. He put his notice in, and has around a week or so left before he finishes and starts new job.
Now, when he first began the job, there was nothing within his contract about repaying the cost of the courses he completed (£4000). Since he put his notice in, the owner of company has provided some paperwork, attempting to backtrack on the contract and get him to repay the £4000. He has even said that he will not pay his last months wages to cover this cost. Family member has obviously not signed this ‘paperwork’ or agreed to his wages being used to repay this cost.
Where does he now stand if the owner does refuse to pay his final months wage?
Thanks in advance.
