Hi all, I could really use some outside perspective on this.

I’m in a WoW guild and recently heard (from another member) that leadership have been discussing recruitment, specifically to reduce drama in the group. That part I completely understand… nobody wants a toxic environment.

The issue is that it was suggested that avoiding recruiting trans players might help with that, based on the idea that recent drama has involved people who happened to be trans.

I’m trans myself, so hearing that was honestly quite upsetting. It feels like a generalisation… like identity is being used as a proxy for behaviour, rather than just dealing with individuals who cause issues.

At the same time, I don’t want to create more tension or be seen as “proving their point” by reacting badly. I’ve drafted a calm message to leadership to explain how it came across, but I’m second-guessing whether I should say anything at all.

I guess my questions are:

  • Am I overreacting to this?
  • Is this a reasonable concern from leadership, or is it crossing into discrimination?
  • What’s the best way to handle this without escalating things?

I’m trying to stay level-headed about it, but it’s hard not to take it personally.

Any advice would really help.
