I’m posting this here because I’ve heard this may relate to trauma, but I don’t understand how.

I just started seeing a therapist, and during my first session he taught me some grounding techniques. Most of them related to relaxing my body, and that feeling was AWFUL. I had a few seconds where I was crying, then it was like everything switched off and I couldn’t focus.

It’s been almost six months and I still can’t even think about grounding the usual ways. It bothers me slightly to know that I’m ignoring my body, but that’s kind of what I have to do.

Is this a common, shared experience? What “fixes” it?
