Anesthesia vs nitrous for bone grafting and implant

I’m getting two bone grafts and one implant placed next month. No extractions because the teeth were never there. My oral surgeon plans to give me Valium and nitrous for the procedure, not anesthesia. I can get anesthesia but insurance doesn’t cover it.

Those of you who have been through this, do you think this is ok or should I just pay for the anesthesia? I get super anxious at the dentist and I had expected to be fully out for this. How bad is bone grafting and implant placement? I’m not afraid of the pain because I know I’ll be numb but it’s the scraping and drilling into my bone that creeps me the f out.
