NCT Emissions Fail Help!
Note: I have a 2006 Toyota Yaris with 185,000km mileage
In October I had a whole new exhaust system fitted in, was told by the lads there should be no problems with it. Took the car for an NCT in April, failed the lambda on emissions with 1.10 while the limit was between 0.97 and 1.03. Brought the car to the mechanic, was told there were a couple of holes so that got sealed and said it would pass. Brought it for a retest (my fault this time) I didn't drive the car long enough before the test so it failed. Brought it for another retest drove the shite out of it up and down the motorway STILL failed, but I was really close this time (1.04). Brought it back to the machanic was told I was fitted a universal Lambda sensor and so they fitted a new, branded one.
Here is where the problem comes in, yesterday I go into the mechanic and he wasn't happy with what was going on, after fitting a new lambda sensor the lambda was still off on the readings, now he's telling me to get a new cat converter which costs a fortune.
What should I do in this situation? Should I get the cat converter or could there be another possible issue to why the lambda is still too high? Can't afford a new car atm...
