I was at a dental school visit that my undergrad school does with their dental school in which the assistant director of admissions mentioned that they would like to see shadowing at a general denstist more than specialties. It surprised me because they're very known for specializing so I was wondering how much this actually affects the applications and if I should focus more than half of my hours on shadowing a general dentist. I am assuming its because they want you to see what you're really going to be doing in dental school so you know you actually want to do dental, etc.

Basically just the title. I kind of assumed research was an important part of these schools but I wanted to know if there is anything else. I also anticipate my GPA wont be super high (probably around a 3.8) so i feel the need to compensate for that. though i think grades at my school are fairly deflated so hopefully they take that into consideration.
