I’ve been dealing with what seems like Achilles tendonitis / bursitis for almost 6 years now, and honestly, it’s exhausting. Both of my legs are affected. My Achilles tendons have gotten noticeably thicker over time, and even basic things like walking or just being on my feet can be pretty painful.
Some days are manageable, but a lot of days it just feels like constant discomfort. I’ve tried a bunch of things already — seen doctors, done therapy (ultrasound, etc.), stretching routines, different creams and anti-inflammatory stuff… nothing has really made a lasting difference.
Recently I went to another doctor, and he basically said surgery is the next step. He explained they would go in, cut into the tendon area, remove inflamed tissue and scar tissue that’s no longer functioning properly.
Has anyone here actually gone through this? What was your experience like? Did it help? How was recovery?
What really worries me is that my Achilles itself isn’t torn — it’s still intact — and the idea of cutting into it anyway feels… risky. Like, making it worse instead of better.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been through something similar.
