I have a coworker (not a supervisor or manager) who constantly acts like she’s in charge of everyone. She tells people when to take lunches, tells people to extend shifts, and tries to direct coworkers even though she has no leadership role.
The biggest issue is that she repeatedly pressures me after I say no. Example: I had an early shift ending at 9am and she kept telling me to stay later. I said no multiple times because I had plans. She kept saying things like “what are you even going to do when you get home?” and “you don’t have a life.” Another time she and a lead both said I was lying about having plans and should just stay. And continued saying “you dont do anything at home” which struck me hard because they do not know what i do and i actually deal with generalized anxiety and depression so small comments like this really hurt too.
What happened today really pushed me over the edge. I was scheduled 11-3. This coworker called me at 4am and again at 5am trying to get me to come in early for a 6-2 shift. She also texted me. Then HR from the store called me asking me to come in. Then the leader on duty told one of my coworkers to call/text me too. Another coworker later told me that this same coworker had been asking around trying to get people to reach me because they wanted me to come in. She is not management, so I don’t understand why she is acting like she has authority to organize all of this.
She also calls off a lot herself, which leaves extra unfinished work for the next day, but then management gets mad at the rest of us for not finishing everything.
Store leadership seems to favor her or at least lets her get away with acting like an unofficial manager.
Am I overreacting, or is this inappropriate workplace behavior? Should I report it to HR/ethics, confront her directly, or just ignore it and keep boundaries? Ive reported my own etl to ethics multiple times because i do not trust the leadership at my store so any advice on how to handle this would be great !
